Vienna19plus combines
tradition with modernity

Viennese launch new online platform for art lovers: Vienna19plus combines tradition with modernity and offers exclusive design products and tours through the Danube metropolis.

The new online platform Vienna19plus (www.vienna1900plus.com) combines the elegance of Viennese modernism with modern design and offers art lovers worldwide a unique experience. Founded by Viennese Alexandra Elisabeth Dubsky and Pilar Phyllis Haerdtl, the forum presents exclusive Art Deco-inspired design products, informative tours through Vienna and a blog with insider knowledge. “It should be a lively meeting place for everyone who loves a vibrant metropolis,” explains Dubsky. “We had the vision of creating a space that primarily presents the iconic works from around and after 1900, but also doesn’t lose sight of today,” adds Haerdtl.

Design products with a Viennese soul

Vienna19plus presents an exclusive selection of design products inspired by Viennese modernism. Art lovers can purchase high-quality everyday objects such as umbrellas, sun hats, foldable shopping bags and cups decorated with stylish Art Deco motifs, interpretations of artists of the time - from muse Alma Mahler to Oskar Kokoschka. “We want to bring a piece of Viennese elegance into everyday life by reinterpreting timeless aesthetics and making them accessible to a modern audience. The plan is for us to introduce new designs on a regular basis. We are literally bursting with ideas,” emphasizes Haerdtl.

City tours

In order to make the diversity of the Viennese art scene tangible on site, Vienna19plus also offers guided tours. These include known and hidden art treasures of the city and offer a unique insight into the history and present of Viennese art. “We want to inform and entertain in order to bring the Viennese art scene to life,” says Dubsky.

Blog with insider knowledge and event information

In addition to the design shop and the tours, Vienna19plus features a blog where readers can find current information about art events and exhibitions in Vienna as well as entertaining anecdotes about the artists whose works are presented on the platform. “We would like to give our readers a look behind the scenes of the Viennese art scene and tell them unknown stories,” say Dubsky and Haerdtl in unison.

For understanding

Viennese Modernism, a diverse movement around 1900, sought individuality and a departure from traditional art forms, represented by artists such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. As a production community of Viennese modernism, the Wiener Werkstätte combined art and craft in 1903 under the influence of Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser. Art Deco, a decorative style of the 1920s and 1930s, ultimately relied on geometric shapes and luxury and was influenced by artists such as Tamara de Lempicka and Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann. It should be noted that the transition between the styles was fluid and many artists incorporated elements of both movements into their works.

Dubsky und Haerdtl

The founding duo of Vienna19plus, Pilar Phyllis Haerdtl and Alexandra Elisabeth Dubsky, share a deep passion for Vienna before and after 1900. Their creative vision is shaped by the style of the Wiener Werkstätte and their family roots: Haerdtl as a descendant of the Viennese architect Oswald Haerdtl, Dubsky as the grandniece of the writer Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. With Vienna19plus they have launched a design project - an artistic homage to the dynamic Danube metropolis at the beginning of the 20th century.
